Ann Sturm
Ann Sturm became involved in ringing handbells in 1982 while living
in Farmington, New Mexico. After moving to Colorado, she continued playing
handbells, attended festivals and other handbell events, learned how to ring
four and six-in-hand and joined with a friend to co-direct their church youth
bell ensemble. Even though she has never had any formal musical training, she
became interested in arranging handbell music. Her method of learning consists
of reading music theory and harmony books and pestering her musical friends
with questions that concern her at the time, putting the information garnered
into practice and trying to remember it. She has been a member of the
High Plains Ringers since 1991. Ann is also a member of the GraceNote
Bells at Grace Presbyterian Church and has co-directed the Rainbow Ringers Youth
Handbell Ensemble and the GraceNotes.
Ann was also a member of the Smithtonian
Handbell Ensemble (another community ensemble) for ten years. She was honored
to play in the Auditioned Festival Choir as part of the Ring-in-the-Round
Community Handbell Concert at Boettcher Concert Hall in June 2001.
