Karen Pfiffner



Karen Pfiffner brings to the CU Ensembles ringing and directing experience dating to the early 1970's. She graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in organ and church music and is a founding member of the CU Alumni Handbell Ensemble (now High Plains Ringers) where she continued to play until being appointed director in 1989. She had been a member of the CU Handbell Ensemble from 1973 to 1977. Karen joined the faculty of the CU School of Music in 1987.

Karen's wide array of musical experience encompasses organ, choir directing and musical directorships of several churches as well as arranging music for bells, voice, and orchestra. She is recognized for her comprehensive instructional, technical, and musical skill. She has been a lecturer and clinician at numerous workshops and festivals throughout Colorado, Arizona, and Wyoming and taught classes at the National Directors' Convention, where she conducted the University Handbell Ensemble for the keynote concert in August 1990. Karen serves as Past-Chair of the Central Colorado region of the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers (AGEHR).
