Jerry Olson
Jerry Olson is a programmer with the National Center for Atmospheric
Research in Boulder. Music has been an enduring hobby of his
starting with trombone, at the age of 10, playing in school bands, jazz and
marching bands at Wolf Point High School (Montana), Oregon State University
and the University of Wisconsin. Struck with musical wanderlust at the age of
25 he mothballed the trombone and experimented with piano lessons and singing
in community choirs (and finally learning how to dance). He first became
involved in ringing handbells in 1985 while living in Maryland and singing
in the choir at
Abiding Presence Lutheran Church
in Beltsville. The vocal
choir, being pressed into temporary bell service by the pastor who directed,
played simple hymns for Christmas and Easter. He has loved bells ever since.
After moving to Colorado in November of 1986, he began ringing for the CU
Handbell Ensemble in February of 1990. He joined the High Plains Ringers
in September of 1994.
