Tom Lance
Tom Lance has been interested in music since studying piano and organ
as a child. He majored in Music History with an emphasis on organ and church
music at Wheaton College from which he graduated in 1986. His first exposure
to handbells came shortly after he moved to Colorado in 1987. His roommate
at the time, who was a bell ringer with the CU choir, invited Tom to a bell
potluck because Tom could make salad and he couldn't. Tom was intrigued
by handbells and joined the University of Colorado Handbell Ensemble that year
and the Alumni Ensemble (now High Plains Ringers) the following year where he has
rung under the direction of Everett Hilty and Karen Pfiffner.
Tom is presently the Music director of Messiah Lutheran Church (Longmont,
Colorado) where he directs both the vocal and bell choirs and dabbles in
composing and arranging. He is a member of the
American Guild of Organists,
the Association of Lutheran Musicians, and the
American Guild of English Handbell Ringers .
When not involved in music (which is almost never), Tom works for a Denver
banking firm as a member of the software conversion training team.
Tom was a member of the CU Alumni Handbell Ensemble from 1987 to 1999.
